Biography
1946
This is the year when I am born in Grzmiąca (Pomerania Region).
I spent my childhood and school years in Łódź.
1965
I graduate from the Secondary School of Visual Arts and General Education in Łódź and start doing a programme higher education at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where my teachers include Stanisław Kulon, Oskar Hansen, Jan Kucz, Bogusław Szwacz.
1971
I graduate (with honours) from the Academy, where Tadeusz Łodziana was my tutor. In 1970,
I take part in the Nationwide Student Plein Air Meeting in Legnica (Grand Prix). Upon graduation, I decide to settle down in that town.
1971/72
I work as a company visual artist at the Legmet Mechanical Works in Legnica for several months; I put forward a number of sculptural solutions for the town to the local authorities. From October 1972, I start working at the State Higher Education School of Fine Arts in Wrocław, where I am an assistant to Borys Michałowski.
1973/76
In autumn 1973, I settle down in Lubin, where I start working as a County Visual Artist. In February 1974, my daughter Kalina is born. This is when I contribute to the project called Humanization of the Town of Lubin developed by O. Hansen, cooperate with urban planners (E. Dakszewicz), develop a project for a system of special event decorations for the County; I create welcome billboards for the Town of Lubin at town limits and other significant sculptures.
1977
I move to the village of Czerniec nr. Lubin. In October, my daughter Daria is born. I continue to cooperate with the Mechanical Works in Chocianów, where my studio and house are being built. I take part in Plein Air Meetings (Osetnica, Burgas, Targoszyn, Borów). I create monumental sculptures of stone. I participate in a number of exhibitions.
1980/84
I organize 1980 Borów – Chocianów Sculpture Plein Air Meeting. I move to Chocianów.
I and a group of young people refurbish premises that will host the Lamus Art Gallery. In 1983, I organise an individual exhibition in Lubin (including the first display of the Lublin Triptych). The triptych is later exhibited at the Holy Cross Church in Wrocław in 1984. First contacts with the Federal Republic of Germany in 1983 (Fellbach). In 1984, the cyclical work called Iron Men is started.
1986
I settle down in Świeradów Zdrój. In 1984, I get in touch with the Kunst -Treff Art Gallery in Worpswede (Germany).
1989
I move to Szklarska Poręba. I make an attempt at opening a Creative Work Centre in a quarry.
1990
In December, I and Ania Daniel launch the F. Art Gallery. In 1991/92, I create the ’82 Lublin Victims Memorial in Michałowice and Chocianów. In 1993, Colourful Rocks are made.
1993/95
I devise plans for The Quarry building in Szklarska Poręba.
1999 On 3rd November, my son Karol is born, and the Town Council in Szklarska Poręba closes down the F Art Gallery.
2000
In the JKSM Garage, a 7-metre-high Christ’s monument for the Town Bolesławiec and the sculpture WE, 20TH CENTURY MEN for the Town of Greiz (Germany) are made, The Quarry is nominated for the KRĄG 2000 award.
2000/2009
This is the time of significant exhibitions (The Art Exhibitions Bureau’s Art Gallery Jelenia Góra 2003, Sculpture Grande – Prague 2004, Sacrum – Częstochowa 2003, The Art Exhibitions Bureau’s Art Gallery Wrocław 2004, Sculpture Grande – Prague 2005, Sculpture Festival – Bratislava 2007, Kielce – 2009) and new projects, like (TRACTOR DRIVER – 2007, Siberia Deportees’ Memorial – Kłodzko 2007, Boleslaus III the Wrymouth Monument for Jelenia Góra, projects for Wrocław, Berlin, Duisburg, Hattingen, private collections).
ZBIGNIEW FRĄCZKIEWICZ deals with sculpture, drawing, painting, graphic sign design, architecture, photography, utility design, medal-making, exhibitions, video films, performances, happenings, teaching work.
