Suitcase – vernissage

Read MoreThe Suitcase is a travelling exhibition. It was initiated on 13th April 2005 at the New York Public Library’s Art Collection Galleries as a presentation of 10 American and 10 Italian artists’ works. The idea of the exhibition was conceived at the end of 2004 when the art curator Daniele Di Lodovico stayed in New York carrying out scholarly work on culture. The idea behind The Suitcase is to include 100 artists from different countries who could present their artistic production in the form of a small drawing made on special paper, making them easy to carry about. Of significance was also a strive for travelling, combined with expanding curators’ experiences, establishing new contacts between artists from different countries and searching for new exhibition spaces. The Suitcase was presented on 4th September 2005 in the Modern Art Museum in the Palazzo Pietromarchi in Marsciano (Peruggia) and on 19th November 2005 in the Pyramid Center of Contemporary Art in Haifa (Israel), where 10 Israeli artists contributed their works to the exhibition. At the end of the journey one will be able to compare interesting differences in artistic communication between artists and countries. A catalogue documenting the “artistic” journey will too be published.
